Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig, May 16, 1937 until August 17, 2015. She was an American actor and ballet dancer famous for her portrayals as Batgirl on the 1960s ' television show Batman and Marta who played the Orion slave girl Marta from Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Deceive" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes that were adapted for television." Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her family moved to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School as well as W. H. Adamson High School. However, she did not graduate due to the fact that she did not receive "one PE credit". Craig was a part of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the the youngest dancer in the corps de ballerina, after being identified by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and instructor. This experience was beneficial when she performed stunts while acting as Batgirl. In 1957, she left the company "over an issue with changes to casting". She moved to Los Angeles in hopes of being able to continue her career in dance. However, she was soon cast in films roles. One of her first television role was on the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in the year 1958 with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later played the role of Batgirl's stepfather Commissioner James Gordon. After that, she appeared in three films--The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and was also a guest in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig starred alongside Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961), which featured Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was an actor in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. She also starred with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) and Seven Women from Hell (1961) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961), both which featured Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Happened in the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (1964). In the year 1966, she played in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she played an Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
