Padma Parvati Lakshmi, a daughter of Padma Parvati Lakshmi, was born in Chennai, India, on September 1st 1970. Her parents divorced after she turned just 2 years old. Her mother fled India to escape the stigma associated with divorce in India and emigrated to the United States. Lakshmi lived for two years with her grandparents in Chennai prior to her move to the United States. Her parents divorced later and she has a younger half-brother and half sister from her father. Lakshmi is the descendant of Hindu goddess Wealth and Prosperity She grew up in New York City and Los Angeles. She would return to India for a few months each year to visit relatives.
