Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11, 1982 was an American actress. Her film debut was in Purple People Eater (1988) in which she was awarded an Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress under Nine Years of Age". Birch gained notoriety as a child star by appearing in films such as All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995), and Alaska (1996).Her debut role in the film industry came in 1999, when she portrayed Jane Burnham in the highly popular film American Beauty, for which she won an BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2001, she was nominated as Best Actress for Ghost World. In 2003, Birch received an Emmy Award nomination for her performance as the lead role in Homeless to Harvard The Liz Murray Story. Her other films include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009) and Petunia (2012).After having off from acting, Birch was back in the spotlight in 2016 and has since been in several independent films. Birch played the role of Whisperer Mary/Gamma in season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch who's family's first surname was Biersch was of German-Jewish, Scandinavian, French-Canadian and Italian ancestry.  The name Thora, which she has adopted, is the name that comes from Thora, the Norse god thunder and lightning ("Thor"), which could have been her name if she had been a child. Kian Bolt Birch is her younger brother. Both parents have been actors in adult films , and also appeared in Deep Throat. Due to their experience in the entertainment industry, they were not keen to promote the actress, but were convinced to show Thora's photo to agents by a babysitter who saw her mimicking commercials. The first time she got noticed was at age four after her babysitter brought her along to auditions for the Quaker Oats commercial.
